We’re still keenly awaiting news of the Sport Hub!
Rumours have been doing the rounds that it’s closed for good, but we phoned ALAT and got a response from Kathy Kirkham, ALAT’s Chief Operations Officer who is leading the project, who told us :

“The reopening of the Sports Hub is imminent. All works on site have been completed and now we are currently in the process of recruiting additional staff to ensure that all relevant health and safety and safeguarding requirements are met.”

We have been told it’s ‘imminent’ before – ALAT’s communication strategy has been very poor, which does not reflect well on Fowey Academy.

Plans are afoot for Squires Field and the old bowling club to be transformed into a multi-use community space with both indoor and outdoor uses. Heather Hunt (WI President) is leading a committee on this, and an open meeting will be held in September.

This is a wonderful opportunity to create something new and exciting in Fowey, especially in that part of town. We look forward to seeing how this develops.

Love Fowey has moved – we’re now up at Polvillion Road. Our cottage in Albert Place (next to the Old Quay House) is available for rent, through Air BnB and Owners Direct. We’d be happy to consider preferential rates for Love Fowey members.

We really enjoyed the Big Gig weekend – all the hard work put in by the Chamber of Commerce really paid off and created what we hope is the first of many.

Not long ill Regatta – here’s to a wonderful and memorable week for the town – sadly the last for Michael Penprase our Town Crier who is retiring.  We can’t wait to see what everyone has planned for the Traders Carnival – cartoons are the theme this year.
