It’s been lovely this Easter to see Fowey come back to life. Local businesses are getting spruced up for summer, the pontoon is back up and the streets are once more thronged with visitors. And Poldark fever is taking hold!

With that in mind it’s a shame to see so many prominent empty shop fronts in Fowey. The HSBC has been an eyesore for around four years and Dino and Angela’s gallery, Art for Serious People, has stood empty for six months.

What a terrible waste for visitors – and frustrating for other businesses who could be using these spaces. Are there ways in which landlords, especially absentee ones, could be encouraged to show more love for the town?

That said, it’s great to see the Globe up and running, and Any Old Lights will be going into new premises on May 1st, sharing Tipper’s Treasures shop.

The line up for the Fowey Festival has been announced – and for the second year the Fowey Arts Trail will take visitors around town to the homes and galleries of twenty Fowey artists. potters and jewellers.

August is not far away now and Regatta will soon be upon us. Very sorry to hear that after being at the helm for 20 years Graham and Tracey Jane are stepping down from the Regatta Committee – this will be their last year. The committee will be looking for a new chairman so if you want to get involved, let them know.
