Just a few weeks until the very first Big Gig and BBQ weekend – 19/20/21st June. Free live music all weekend and cooking demonstrations on the Town Quay – plus Father’s Day and summer solstice too, so plenty to celebrate! The weekend kicks off in style on Friday 19th, when a flame brought over by boat from Polruan will be used by James Strawbridge to light the fire for the first barbecue. And with the weather set to be sunny all June, it’s looking like a great weekend.
The following weekend – Saturday 27th June – is the Fowey Primary School Fete – and on Sunday it’s the 4th Polruan Vintage and Homemade Fair, 11am-5pm.
Massive congratulations to Fowey garden designer Darren Hawkes and team winning gold at the Chelsea Flower Show. Lovely to see the news splashed over the front of the Cornish Guardian!
The Fowey Regatta Committee are still looking for someone to take over from Graham and Tracey Jane, for whom it will be the final year as organisers. If you are able to get involved please get in touch
Very happy to hear that the Sports Hub is opening up again – in the evenings, weekend and school holidays only – but still waiting to find out what date this will take place and if it can be used in the mornings before school.
Shocked to learn that Lloyds’ Bank is closing in Fowey. This leaves us with one bank – in a town of 2,500! Lloyds have signed up to a protocol which commits them to:
- Work with local communities to establish the impact of the branch closure, prior to its closure
- Find suitable alternative provision to suit individual communities
- Put satisfactory alternative banking services in place before a branch is closed e.g. free to use cash machines
Has this happened in Fowey?
Please don’t forget to let us know about events coming up – we can also advertise any job vacancies for you.
